Minden Truck Pull happening Saturday

The Minden Truck Pull is back for another year at the Minden Fairgrounds, with some extra offerings.

Andy Rickard, President of the Minden Kin Club, says they’ve had a lot of interest about this year’s event.

“We’ve confirmed some larger groups coming, some fleets of transport trucks and gravel trucks,” says Rickard. “So we should have a good show. We hope to have a lot of people out. We had a record number last year, so it shows this event seems to be growing a little every year.”

The main event truck pull starts at noon and has vehicles compete to pull an “executioner’s sled” as far as they can down a 300 foot track. Rickard says new this year is all-terrain vehicle drag racing, where participants will head down the track individually to compete for the best time.

A “show-and-shine” for highway tractors and pickup trucks is also making its return, along with food booths, beer tents, and a variety of displays.

Running since 1987, the event raises money for the Kin Club. Rickard says all proceeds go towards the community’s “greatest need,” such as the Minden Community Food Centre or Heat Bank Haliburton County.

Rickard adds registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, with events happening throughout the day. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children over 12, and free for those under.

“Track and the grounds are in really good shape. Weather conditions look favourable,” says Rickard. “There is a chance of showers in the afternoon, but with a bit of cloud cover it’ll be a lot more comfortable this year. Previous years we’ve had extreme heat and I think with this weather we’ll have a very comfortable day.”
