The Township of Minden Hills is recruiting volunteers for two holiday events.
Robert Wong, Cultural Program Coordinator, says they’re looking for five to 10 volunteers each for “Haunting in Minden Hills” on Oct. 28 and “Christmas in the Village” on Nov. 18. “Can be students, seniors, volunteers of all ages,” says Wong.
Wong explains the annual Halloween event features face painting and “zombie dance” workshops, pumpkin-carving and colouring sheet contests, and more. The Christmas event is the end point of the township’s Santa Claus Parade, and features an artisan market, a Santa-writing station, and hot beverages.
“[Halloween] volunteers will be in charge of supporting certain stations, so they will mainly be serving customers, greeting them, and providing instructions on craft activities,” says Wong. “Whereas in ‘Christmas in the Village,’ there will be artisan vendors who need help getting supplies, setting things up, and [with] the tear-down as well.”
According to Wong, admission is free for both events, but entry to the site’s Pioneer Village and Agnes Jamieson Gallery will stay by donation. Orientation and training for the volunteers will be done on-site, and he says they’re free to wear costumes to either event.
Wong says you can sign up by emailing [email protected] with your full name, contact information, and availability, adding that new volunteers will need to provide a police record check.
