Dysart et al opens registration for community yard sale

Dysart et al needs vendors for its annual New To You Community Yard Sale.

Environmental Manager John Watson says they’ve opened registration for the event, which takes place at the A.J. LaRue Arena in Haliburton from 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 6.

Watson says they have 35 spots for residents to sell whatever comes out of the garage during spring cleaning.

“We have households that sell all sorts of things, whether it be clothing, furniture, things like sports memorabilia, sporting goods, children’s toys,” says Watson. “You name it, the [yard sale] runs the full gambit of things people could be selling.”

Watson says vendors will get two spots in the parking lot, but electricity is not provided. They will also need to bring their own cash float to give change, as well as their own tents, tables, and weights to secure them. Vendors also cannot leave until the event ends, and will need to bring anything they don’t sell home with them.

He says getting all these yards sales together in one place makes it easier on both the sellers and shoppers.

“Because Dysart and Haliburton County [are] so geographically large, it’s quite hard for people to hold yard sales on their own property,” says Watson. “So by hosting it in one location, we can have 35 households all together. Makes it very convenient because we’re on an asphalt surface for those who are selling materials. It’s a nice, clean, dry environment for people to sell on.”

Watson says registration costs $30 and can be done on the municipality’s website. He encourages anyone interested to register early, as they typically sell out of spots by the summer.

“The sooner the better, so we can guarantee that you’re in, and you’ve got peace of mind that your spring cleaning has a place to go when you’re done,” Watson adds.
