‘Explosive device’ injures one in Algonquin Highlands

One person has been arrested after police say one person was seriously injured by a homemade explosive device in Algonquin Highlands.

Brooklyn Harker, media relations for the Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) Central Region, explains officers with the Haliburton Highlands OPP were called to a home on Comak Cres. around 5 p.m. after someone was injured from what she describes as a homemade explosive device.

She says the injured person was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Harker details how neighbours were evacuated while the OPP’s Explosive Disposal Unit investigated the scene. She says they uncovered more “explosive substances and devices” from the residence.

Harker asks anyone with information about what happened to call the Haliburton Highlands OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

She reassures there is no threat to public safety.
