Project Lifesaver coming to Almaguin Highlands

A program used to help find missing people of all ages with cognitive disorders is expanding to Almaguin Highlands.

Project Lifesaver, currently being utilized in other northern communities like North Bay and West Nipissing, is being adopted by Ontario Provincial Police at the local detachment, and in West Parry Sound.

Officials say the program helps police quickly locate missing people with cognitive disorders, including those with Alzheimer’s, autism and down syndrome. Project Lifesaver clients wear personalized wristbands that emit a signal with an 8 kilometre tracking radius.

Almaguin Highlands OPP staff sergeant Doug Vincer says “Project Lifesaver is just another tool in the toolbox” police can use to assist the community.
