Police are advising residents and travelers that a ‘significant weather event is approaching the area.’
Officers say the Haliburton County area will receive significant freezing rain over the upcoming weekend, adding precipitation may begin as snow or rain before changing over to freezing rain this evening.
According to police, freezing rain may become lighter for a brief period of time for some areas on Saturday and will change to rain on Sunday as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.
The OPP and Public Safety Canada encourage everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
Police warn drivers to exercise caution, monitor weather, adjust travel plans, and prioritize safety during ice storm travel.
