The province’s police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 60-year-old man on April 13 in Minden Hills.
The Special Investigations Unit says around 5:30 p.m. an individual called police to report they were concerned for the well-being of a man, and were told he had left the property with a firearm.
After OPP officers arrived on scene in the area of Highway 1 and Highway 17, the SIU says there was an exchange of gunfire between an officer and the man, who was in some bushes.
The SIU says the man was located dead, and the fatal injury was determined to be self-inflicted.
Three investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
