The Minden Hills Cultural Centre, in collaboration with the Haliburton County Public Library, will be screening Finding Dawn at the Cultural Centre at 1 p.m. on May 1.
Officials say the film, directed by Métis filmmaker Christine Welsh, is a powerful documentary that explores the national crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada, and brings attention to systemic violence while honouring the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.
The screening takes place in advance of Red Dress Day, observed on May 5 as a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people (MMIWG2S).
Red dresses are displayed across the country as symbols of those who are missing, calling for remembrance, justice and systemic change.
