Proposed LCBO Winter Hours Have Some Concerned

The possible winter hours of two area LCBOs have some residents worried about the economic impact.

A concerned citizen is expected to be meeting with Highlands East council this week to discuss the proposed hours of the LCBOs in Wilberforce and Gooderham.

Linda Nottage submitted a letter to the township noting that the Wilberforce location would be closed on Tuesdays, while the Gooderham store would be shut down on Mondays. In the letter, Nottage suggests that these closures “will only serve to direct customers from our communities to travel to the larger communities of Haliburton or Bancroft.”

She goes on to suggest that this will lead to shopping for other things like groceries, hardware needs and dining in other townships. According to the letter, Nottage wants the LCBO to be “made aware of the devastating effect that a closing day poses to our community.”

Highlands East is expected to go over the letter Wednesday and the recommendation within the letter urging the LCBO to reconsider closing those days.
