A turnaround or a parking lot? that is a question being asked by Beer Lake Residents.
Concerned citizens met with Minden Council today to go over a large amount of vehicles parking along Beer Lake Road. Suzanne Harrison, the person leading the charge, says that the road services several cottages along the southeast shore of Beer Lake and the road is being used as a municipal parking lot. Harrison says that there is an overflow of large vehicles that park on either side of the road. She adds that the overflow of vehicles often ends up on the doorstep of the residents. She also says that at times there have been 48 or more vehicles blocking the road. Harrison points out in her letter to the Minden Hills Council that there have been times that emergency vehicles would not have access to peoples homes in an emergency scenario.
Harrison mentioned in the letter that at times a normal sized vehicle can’t pass through the area because of the high number of large vehicles, trailers ATV’s and other off-road vehicles being parked on either side of the road.
Aside from the issues with the road being blocked, Harrison feels that the constant “drone” of ATV’s and Jeeps have “destroyed the tranquillity of Beer Lake.” Another issue that Harrison penned in her letter was the destruction of the road itself thanks in part to the traffic there and lack of maintenance.
Harrison is asking Minden Hills Council to institute a By-Law that stops vehicles from parking along the entire length of the road. Harrison hopes that this By-Law would have a posted penalty of having your vehicle towed and ticketing parked vehicles. As well Harrison is asking the council to remove the turnaround all together to limit the people using driveways to turn around.
