Algonquin Highlands getting ready to open campsites June 16

Backcountry campsites associated with the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails will open on June 16.

The Algonquin Highlands Emergency Control Group met again Monday to stay on top of changes happening due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

It was agreed that reservations will be accepted online or through the call centre only and can be made starting Wednesday June 3.

The trails office at the St. Nora Lake access point on highway 35 will remain closed to the public, so no in-person transactions or interactions with staff are possible, and no equipment rentals will be available until further notice.

The Township requires two weeks to ensure the area can be opened safely for the return of visitors.

Social distancing guidelines must be adhered to and group sizes are restricted to no more than five, unless from the same household.
