The Municipality of Dysart et al is bringing back a community yard sale for a second year.
The New to You sale runs from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on Saturday at the A.J. LaRue Arena’s parking lot. John Watson, Dysart’s environmental manager, says the inaugural event was a great success.
“The turnout last year was fantastic,” says Watson. “We had a large amount of people coming to shop, and we also had a good number of people selling items from their vehicles. This year, we’ve already surpassed the number of sellers from last year and we expect a really great turnout of people wanting to shop.”
Like any yard sale, Watson says you can expect to find things such as clothing, jewelry, sports equipment, household goods, and appliances—the one location just means people won’t have to travel as far.
“Dysart’s a very large community, so having a yard sale on your own property might be challenging because it’s harder to reach you,” says Watson. “So, by hosting it all in one location, it makes it really easy for shoppers to access 20-plus yard sales all in one place. And then it really helps keep materials out of our landfill by reducing and reusing.”
Watson says the Dysart Public Library and Haliburton County Museum will host book sales, and the SIRCH Thrift Warehouse and Lily Ann Thrift Store will have in-store sales the same day. He adds there’ll be live music, and the Rotary Club will be on-site for their vehicle raffle.
According to Watson, there’s room for 35 sellers, of which only a few spots are left. He says you can sign up at the municipality’s website, or by calling them at 705-457-1740.
