New emergency department physician coming to Haliburton County

A new doctor is joining the emergency department team at Haliburton Highlands Health Services.

On April 15, officials with the County of Haliburton and the local hospital announced the incoming addition of Dr. Harrison Bishop, who will join the team as of July 1.

Bishop attended medical school at the University of Queensland in Australia, and completed a residency in family medicine at Queen’s University in Kingston.

“As we continue to face the challenge of providing healthcare in a rapidly evolving environment, having a physician of Dr. Bishop’s caliber will enhance the level of care we are able to provide,” said Dr. Keith Hay, Chief of Staff at HHHS.

Bishop, who  came to Haliburton in 2024 with his family to explore practice opportunities in our emergency department, is excited to join the team and pass on his expertise.

“I look forward to contributing what I can to the already excellent emergency department at HHHS,” he said. “My professional interests include the application of point-of-care ultrasound in emergency medicine, both as a diagnostic aid and for its use in procedures. I have a love for teaching and find having learners an incredibly rewarding and humbling experience.”
